​Unit 1 - Conflict

You need to complete a series of work on the conflict topic.  You have to complete the following tasks to help you meet the success criteria outlined below. Incorporate the key words into your answers.

You can produce written answers on the paper provided. Alternatively, you can produce detailed posters or PowerPoint slides to prove you have met the criteria below.  These need to be submitted to your teacher by the deadline shown below.  All photos and maps included should have a caption stating what they show.

Task 2  - What caused the conflict in Rwanda?

  • ​​​Describe the civil war in Rwanda in 1994.  Refer to the number of dead and displaced refugees and key dates in the genocide.
  • Summarise the cause of the conflict in Rwanda. Use the terms;

Task 3a - Summarise the main features of the following groups linked to the Rwandan Genocide.  You could annotate photos of these groups to help support your answer.

  • Describe what the UN did initially with the peacekeeping force in Rwanda throughout the 1990s.
  • Describe the Gacaca Trials
  • Describe the creation of the Kigali Genocide Memorial as a tool to help educate Hutus and Tutsis about their shared history of colonialism.
